Indy Invited me to an interview, which we arranged in the City Centre of Xativa, in the Valencian province, in Spain.  That was Thursday 22nd July 2021, 11 am.

Originally introduced by a mutual friend, I believed I was attending an interview for what I thought was for Personal Assistant, but by the end of an almost 2-hour long interview – Indy said she didn´t want a PA, as that job had already been assigned, but would I consider being an Executive Assistant… Oh and could I start on Monday the following week…

It was over the weekend, that things like ID were requested etc. Indy messaged me with a google pin address, ready for me to turn up to.  No actual address, just a google pin, & I was thinking what…??

My first day Indy greeted me, settled me in, and said “You don´t really know what we do here at wedo, do you? Well, we sell drugs to children!” …

I looked at my bag, then at the door to see if I could make a safe escape all in a split second… my Face must have told 1,000 stories, and I was brought from my panic buy Indy´s infectious laugh… Obviously a joke, but what an Ice Breaker that was…

I then got to hear all about wedo, Wes, & a lot of information, names, & who was important etc. which I promptly forgot…  However, with Indy´s passion for wedo, the following days of the last 4 weeks, that information has surfaced & stuck, it’s just the New Boy Syndrome… Having taken early retirement at age 50, after working for the same company for 30 years, I have not actually worked in over 16 months, so the little grey cells are getting one heck of a workout, I can tell you…

I got to meet Priscila and her Husband Roderigo, after the welcoming initiation joke…. Indy had a call, and Priscilla needed to find something, so Priscila (barefoot) walks into the Lounge and steps in Poo, one of the dog’s had been very unwell…  After recovering from hysterical laughter at poor Priscila, & trying not to gag, I dutifully cleaned up said mess, & watched as Indy then sanitized the area clean. A real first for me… but nice to see that Indy is really a hands on kinda gal…

The rest of that week, is a blur to be honest, catching up on Indy´s email inbox, seemed to be the priority, with over 800 emails scanned for priority, then next was to catch up on the spam mail… Oh, & for the record – Indy gets A LOT of emails…

The other important thing here at wedo tower´s is, the 2 Labrador dogs…! They love to escape, if you don´t lock and secure the gates closed…!  They got me twice in the first week… clever little puppies… Lottie (or Podenqui as she has now been named by Priscila) can scale walls, and always comes back safe and sound, it´s just Mimi & Lulu that are the escape artists…

There was a lot of screen time, broken up with assembling the new office furniture, from Ikea, making what is now our wedo office suit…  thankfully Roderigo is a master at flat pack assembly, so with 3 willing helpers, and Indy (between calls) Priscila and I, soon had the worktables erected, office chairs assembled and the comfortable orange sofas in their covers and joined together… The Orange sofas proved to be a real puzzle, & it took a couple of attempts…

There was an invite to the Jon Lee podcast, which was over 3 hours long, so I had to miss most of it, but Priscila said “isn´t there a Song called Jon Lee…?” then proceeded to hum the Dolly Parton song Joleen….

Week 2 started off with a trip to go get the hire car… Indy said she was hungry, this was 10.00 am & Indy finally got to eat some lunch at about 2 pm, this is not uncommon I’ve noticed….

This 2nd week was pretty-well uneventful if you don´t count the strange man, slashing the back 2 tyres of the said hire car… The Police were involved, and I got to ride in a low loader with the hire car strapped to the back… only to be dumped outside a closed mechanics workshop, & told to wait… 30 minutes later, the mechanic arrived, and said he knew nothing of the vehicle, or the work needed for it to be completed… So, a frantic call to Indy was made, and lots of messages to and from Priscila, who identified that the lorry driver, had dumped me at the wrong mechanic workshop… Then 2 hours later I was picked up by the same lorry driver, who was so apologetic, and taken to the correct workshop… It turns out a large screwdriver type tool had been used to slash the tyres, and the workshop messaged the photos to Indy for the police…

I got to talk with Shirrel Thomas, who is amazing and so inspiring, and taught me so much about Instagram, in just that one meeting… I will be working with Shirrel on Indy´s social media starting next month…

The 3rd week got me introduced to Sophia (Indy´s youngest daughter) her older Sister Julia, & Julia´s husband Jack.  I also got to meet Ian again who flew back from Scotland as Indy celebrated her 50th Birthday.  Indy even took a day off work, to be with her children, exploring Valencia, and the Science Museum.

The Birthday lunch was al fresco, out on the terrace overlooking Xativa, with the Castle on the mountains… & it comprised of freshly squeezed orange juice a la Indy, ice cold water, homemade vegan Banana pancakes, with a range of toppings from Blueberries, Raspberries, Strawberries, Lemon juice and sugar, complete with preserves and chocolate spread… & I got an invite to… it was amazing, just being part of Indy´s family Birthday lunch, hearing the children talk of fun times gone by, reminiscing and joking with each other. It was so special to be part of.

I admit, I had a moment afterwards, up in the offices on my own, as it reminded me, I could never sit with my Mum on her Birthday or see her again.  She passed on Friday 23rd July 2021, the day after my interview with Indy. I had messaged her on the Thursday after the interview (as she had no voice) that I got the job, & she messaged back saying she was so pleased and proud of me.  She then passed, an hour before Indy confirmed I had the job and Dan sent over the contract proposal…  I genuinely believe I will meet with my Mum again, and I am constantly looking out for those tell-tale signs she is around me… Again, another subject Indy and I discussed and agree with, that, in-itself, is another podcast waiting to happen… not sure who our audience would be though… Live or spirit… it will be fun to find out…

The week ended with me taking Julia and Jake for their antigen test, and taking Indy to buy a staple gun… It was so hot with temperatures up into the late 30´s and early 40´s, so I just had to put the roof down, and allowed Indy to drive my convertible & I back to Indy´s home… I think, Indy liked it…

The staple gun I hear you readers ask… Yes, not content with having 2 already, (Poor Ian couldn´t find the Green one), & the Yellow one, the staple drawer got stuck, so Indy decided to go out and buy her own… Why I hear you still asking… Well, you see Macarena sent over these 2 wonderful pieces of canvas art, picturing Wes in Space (you will have to wait to see them, once they are hung in the wedo offices… That´s a whole other Pod cast) they came complete with their own wooden frames (which we had to put together) for us to staple the canvas´s to… It was the hottest workday of the year so far, there was no air conditioning, the windows are fully open, letting in hot Spanish air, the fans are on constantly, and we having to work so closely together stretching the canvas to fit, not getting stung by the staple gun, I think it´s fair to say we know each other really, well after that project… The 1st frame was a learning curve, and it was agreed we needed another body, & pair of hands… so Jake was summoned as the girls were busy making the family traditional Carrot Birthday Cake…

So, we are now into week 4, I really can´t prepare my workday, as things constantly are updating and being flexible is the key, I have found…

Here´s to the wedo future, as the future is, Definitely Wes…!
